First Aid Essentials for Children
The course comprises of the following learning outcomes:
The FIRST AID ESSENTIALS FOR CHILDREN course is intended primarily for those who are expected to provide CPR and first aid directly to children. The course targets all lay responders such as parents, caregivers, guardians, domestic workers, or family members of a child at high risk for sudden death, and other laypersons wanting to learn first aid essentials for children.
The course provides hands-on practice in the skills of first aid for children in the home, including accident prevention, medical emergencies, trauma injuries, environmental emergencies, CPR, choking and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). A 20-page student workbook is provided to each participant for review before, during and after the course.
After completing the course, each participant will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
This course is an attendance only course and is not accredited as a level 1 first Aid course by the Department of Labour.

CPR For Everyone
The course comprises of the following learning outcomes:
The CPR for EVERYONE course is designed to teach the techniques of CPR and choking in adults, children and infants, and the use of the AED to lay rescuers, particularly those who are expected to respond to emergencies in their occupation or workplace. The Course is ideal for security personnel, law enforcement officers, firefighters, lifeguards, swimming coaches, health and fitness staff, corporate and retail employees and other lay responders.
The Course provides hands-on practice in the skills of CPR and choking for adults, children and infants, including the use of barrier devices and pocket masks, and how to activate the emergency services. A 17-page colour manual is provided to each participant for review before, during and after the course.
The student will be required to pass a 15 question multiple choice test and successfully pass 3 skills tests before receiving a numbered Resuscitation Council of Southern Africa certificate of competence in CPR, choking and AED.

The Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Course is available to any healthcare professional who is registered as a Medical or Dental Practitioner, Intern, Junior Intern, Professional Nurse, Clinical Technologist or Advanced Life Support Paramedic. Participants must be in possession of a valid AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider Certificate.
ACLS is a practical, simulated case-based Course that will enhance resuscitation skills in the management of cardiac arrest and peri-arrest patients. Ideal performance is initially demonstrated via video and Instructor. Learning is facilitated by extensive hands-on practice, with each participant getting several opportunities to lead their team in simulated clinical scenarios, guided by positive and constructive feedback.
Candidates will be competent to recognize and initiate the management of cardiac arrest and peri-arrest conditions. The Basic Life Support course is intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings , including in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.
These healthcare providers may include (but are not limited to) doctors, nurses, paramedics, medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, doctors’ assistants, registrars, interns, medical and nursing students in training, aides, medical and nursing assistants and other allied health personnel.
The course is also designed for anyone who is required to take a Healthcare Provider course for employment. The course is a pre-requisite for advanced life support courses in resuscitation, including Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS); Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); Advanced Neonatal Life Support (ANLS); Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS), BLS Instructor course; and is an entry requirement for certain post-graduate examinations offered by the CMSA (EG. PALS is a practical, case-based Course that will enhance one’s skills in the evaluation and management of an infant or child with respiratory compromise, circulatory compromise or cardiac arrest. Ideal performance is initially demonstrated via video and Instructor. Learning is facilitated by extensive hands-on practice, with each participant getting several opportunities to lead their team in simulated clinical scenarios, guided by positive and constructive feedback.
Candidates will be able to perform a systematic approach to the assessment of a seriously ill or injured child, recognize and manage a child in respiratory distress and failure, compensated and hypotensive shock. Participants will be able to recognize and manage a child with a life-threatening bradyarrhythmia, tachyarrhythmia or arrest rhythm, and prevent further deterioration during stabilization and transfer. Candidates will be able to perform effective respiratory management skills, including the use of oxygen delivery devices, ventilation and intubation, as well as the appropriate use of electrical therapy, including defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion, and IV access techniques including intra-osseous and fluid bolus administration.
